100th Post

Happy Earth Day! This is my 100th post. Yep, it is. I thought I'd show you a number of different things for this momentous occasion. Here's some things growing in our yard. Here's our great groundcover:
Here's one of the native plants in our shade garden: Beo's latest rock wall: Here are the flowers I got at the Farmer's Market Saturday:

Here's my little beauty and my big dopey hound:

Here's me really, really happy that Beo felt 100 posts deserved a new camera! (Actually the 100 thing was a bonus to the fact that Beo got a bonus at work and has secretly been planning to get me this. What do I call him in my profile? Enviable? Yes, I think that's apt!)

"Bruin" the Hound

Last week Ruben turned three. It was his first birthday off the tracks and out of the kennels. A lot of people think that greyhounds get spoiled after their retirement, but it's just not true. His life here hasn't been a cake walk at all. For one thing, he's hardly allowed on any furniture.
Okay, maybe the bed but NOT the pillows.
Allright, fine, the pillows, but lets keep the couch nice for company.

After a hard life on the tracks, he deserves it. Even the organic dog treats from the local doggie bakery! He's been a great dog. He's learned to be super gentle with the kids, he has the rare quality of being a "watch hound", and he's obviously made the life of Kamey (our older hound) complete. For more information about greyhounds, check out your local chapter of Greyhound Pets of America. Happy Birthday, Ruben, our big bear-"Bruin"!

Hounds

We got our "foster", Ruben, back last night. This is the foster dog that we fell in love with. He had an appointment with a potential adopter, and Beo and I resolved that if the adopter didn't select him, we would go ahead and adopt him ourselves. Well the adopter chose him, but couldn't take him for a month. Ru went to a different foster home. We didn't want to keep him that long and continue to get attached to him. We figured it would be hard on him, and on the kids too. Lo and behold, the adopter changed his mind. Bird told me one morning that she had a dream that Ruben and Kamey were together again. That afternoon I got an e-mail that Ruben was available for adoption again, and would we mind houndsitting him this weekend? We readily agreed, and if all goes well we will more than likely adopt him. So far, so good! Kamey is so happy with another hound around. Kamey is the darker brindle. Ru is the opposite, lighter brindle with solid blue color. Aren't they lovely together? :) The one of Kamey in the car she is with our 13.5 year old Australian Cattle Dog, Cody. Our adoption group is Greyhound Pets of America if you want more information about Greyhounds.
